Mix sugar and butter until no lumps of butter remain. Add flour and mix until it holds together in a ball. Keep mixing until it is really mixed. Pat mixture into a 9” by 13” by 1” (quarter sheet cake) baking pan making a smooth top.
Bake for an hour at 300° started in a cold oven, until firm in the middle, without the edges browning. Watch closely, turning temp down at first sign of browning. You may turn oven off and leave it in there to complete the baking at times.
