Pre-heat oven to 400° F
Dissolve yeast in warm water in large mixing bowl; let stand about 5 minutes.
Add sugar, shortening, egg, salt, and ½ of flour; beat at low speed of an electric mixer until smooth. Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough - DO NOT OVER MIX or dough will be stiff and rolls tough.
Place dough in a well greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover and let rise in warm place free from drafts 1 hour or until doubled in bulk - or refrigerate up to 5 days. (If refrigerated let return to room temperature before proceeding.)
Punch dough down; turn out onto lightly floured surface and knead 4-5 times - DO NOT OVER WORK. Shape rolls as desired and placed on greased pan- cover and let rise 30 minutes or until doubled in bulk.
Bake 11-15 minutes or until golden brown, brush tops with melted butter.
